Swimmers in the Lake District are having their car tyres slashed in a row over parking spaces, leaving some worried that lives are being put at risk. Police are now investigating after being made aware of the criminal damage, which is thought to have affected at least five vehicles at a small lay-by on Rayrigg Road, near Millerground, Windermere. Scout Phoenix, from Kendal, and her friend Julie Thomas said: “It makes you feel unsafe and attacked and we both felt scared and like we can’t park there anymore. “I don’t want to be driven off by this person, they’re getting their way because now all the swimmers are frightened to park there,” she told the Westmorland Gazette. Having noticed a puncture in her tyre wall, Ms Phoenix took her car to a local garage, where a mechanic described the perfect hole as “a bit weird”. “He couldn’t think of how it could have got there because there wasn’t anything stuck in it. “I texted Julie to say I had had a puncture and she wrote back later saying the same thing had happened to her,” she added.
