Fitness YouTubers Buff Dudes (brothers Hudson and Brandon White) frequently try out various diets, like keto or carnivore. But some diets, particularly the ones mentioned, can be pricey. That’s why Hudson dedicated a video to eating healthy on just $20 a week.
Hudson admits buying a week’s worth of nutritious food that keeps him full is challenging on a tight budget.
“You’ve really got to think, “What are the most important food items for me?,'” he says.
Hudson heads to Walmart with his grocery list and meal ideas. He opts for mostly satiating, healthy, and cheap picks, like oatmeal, beans, and rice. At the end of his trip, Hudson’s cart also contains frozen green vegetables, canned peas, eggs, frozen chicken breasts, bananas, and pears. Hudson doesn’t normally drink whole milk, but adds it to his cart since it’s an inexpensive and rich source of calories. All total, he spends just under $20.

He then heads home and meal preps for the week. Breakfast consists of oatmeal with whole milk, bananas, and pears. For lunch, Hudson eats rice bowls with beans, spinach, and chicken. Dinner is more rice topped with eggs, peas, and broccoli. Looking back, Hudson would have changed things up just a bit by budgeting $100 for the whole month.
“I would get a whole bunch of bulk items and that would last me 30 plus days.” he explains.
Hudson admits the meals are a bit repetitive, but recommends changing up the flavors by experimenting with seasonings. Plus, he enjoys knowing that it is possible to eat healthy on a lean budget.
“And now I know I can do it, which is great.” he says.
