As British Columbians cautiously head back to gyms, Fitness World is looking to hire 200 new employees in the province by the end of October.

The BC gym chain is recruiting people with a passion for fitness to fill roles including general manager, member services representative, assistant fitness manager, fitness class instructor, and personal trainer. A background in fitness is not required, the company said in a release.

Fitness World, which rebranded from Steve Nash Fitness World and Sports Clubs in June, has opened 15 locations across the province since July, including in Vancouver, Surrey, and Nanaimo. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March, Steve Nash Fitness World and Sports Clubs laid off all employees from their 24 gyms.

As BC’s COVID-19 cases rise, the health and safety of staff and employees remain paramount for the company. They’ve implemented new measures to stop the spread of the virus, including regular cleaning of all gyms, hand sanitizing stations, and physical distancing throughout the facilities.

“Health clubs and fitness gyms are cleaning more than they ever have before,” said Chris Smith, CEO of Fitness World.

A Statistics Canada labour force report from September shows that job numbers in BC are down by 150,000 from February. The company says it is in the position to help stimulate jobs and build back the employment numbers for the province.

“Fitness World is a gym for everyone and we’re calling out to people who have a passion for fitness and who want to play an active part in our community,” said Smith, in the release.

“We provide an in-depth training program, competitive salaries and a positive team environment. We’re proud to be a business that can help bring people back to work at such a crucial time.”
